I just learned some very sad news, my Mom’s best canine companion for many years has just died. Hallie was a delightfully spunky and loveable cairn terrier. She had attitude–a sense of confidence and strength that was comforting and inspiring. She once was stuck by a truck, left lifeless on the street and presumed dead. A few minutes later she was back awake, perky and happy as always. Was a rugged little creature! She will be greatly missed, and my heart goes out to my Mom who is grieving this loss.
I am sad that I won’t get to see and play with her again. She always preferred to give and receive compassion at a bit of a distance, not usually too interested in petting or snuggling. But I very clearly remember one time I was playing fetch with her–in her prime she would enthusiastically fetch toys for hours, normally longer that you were ever willing to keep throwing. In the middle of this rousting fun she crawled up to me and gently placed her front paws on my chest and snuggled her face up to mine. It was a touching moment and my Mom said that this was a rare show of compassion she reserved for a very select few. I am glad to have been on her most-favorite-humans list :)
Hallie is, and will continue to be, missed.
